Prof. Kolawole Cultivates Community Ties with Royal Visit to Ajara Agamathen Kingdom
In
a gesture of respect and community engagement, Professor Oladiipo Kolawole, PhD, FNITI, the newly appointed Director / Chief Executive Officer of
the Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV), led a delegation comprising
Principal Officers to the palace of His Royal Majesty, Agano Toniyon I, the
Aholu of Ajara Agamathen Kingdom, for a familiarization visit. The visit
commenced with introduction of the esteemed monarch, HRM Aholu Agano Toniyon I.
The 61 years old monarch born on May 20, 1963 ascended the throne on January
24, 2018 and would celebrate his 62nd birthday in May, 2025. His remarkable
journey, from a vulcanizer to a revered king and Chief Executive Officer of
Agano Tyre Care, commissioned on January 25, 2025 was highlighted, showcasing
his community leadership and entrepreneurial spirit.
Professor
Oladiipo initiated the interaction with heartfelt appreciation for the King's
support to the NFLV. He emphasized the visit's primary objective which was to
seek continued support and blessings for the institution. As a Yoruba man, he
conveyed the importance of maintaining close ties with the traditional
leadership and fostering collaborative relationship.
His
Royal Majesty, Aholu Agano Toniyon I expressed profound satisfaction with the
visit, noting its historical significance. He acknowledged that Professor
Kolawole was the first NFLV Director / CEO to pay him a courtesy visit, a
gesture he deeply appreciated. He equally acknowledged the fact that he had the
honour of receiving the NFLV delegation as the Concenting Authority to Ajara
Dokoh where the Nigeria French Language Village is situated and that equally
explained the presence of the Baale of Ajara Dokoh, Chief Folorunso Sonayon
Sunday on his team for the reception. He was delighted to stated that he sent a
congratulatory letter to Prof, Kolawole on his assumption of duty in French
Village and was also aware that the Baale of Ajara Dokoh did same, adding that
the actions pointed to the fact that both communities acknowledged that a
dignitary has arrived their midst. He encouraged the NFLV and the Director to
consider the palace a home that could be visited anytime as he passionately
advocated for job opportunities for Ajara / Badagry youths, stressing the
community's desire to partake in the opportunities presented by the NFLV.
Prof. Kolawole Visits Badagry DPO
A significant step
towards fostering collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) was taken
recently as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria French Language Village
(NFLV), Professor Oladiipo Kolawole, PhD, FNITI,
led a delegation of Principal Officers on a familiarization visit to the
Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Badagry, CSP Folajimi Agosile.
The visit, which held at the Badagry Divisional Police
Headquarters, commenced with prayers, reflecting the diverse faith of
attendees, setting a tone of unity and mutual respect. Following the
introduction of the host, the guest and members of their delegations, Professor
Oladiipo, who assumed his role as Chief Executive Officer on February 13, 2025,
articulated the purpose of the visit, emphasizing the importance of
establishing and maintaining strong relationship with key stakeholders in
Badagry community, particularly the Nigeria Police. He also highlighted the
directive of the Honourable Minister of Education, which underscores the
crucial role of security agencies in border areas and the need for them to be
French proficient, This, he explained, was essential to enhance operational
effectiveness of the Officers and foster effective communication in the region.
While appreciating the Divisional Police Officer for his support to his
predecessors, the Director / CEO equally expressed commitment to building upon
the existing positive relationship between NFLV and the Police, seeking its
continued support in ensuring the smooth and secure day-to-day operations of
the institution.
In response, DSP Agosile appreciated the French Village Boss for
the visit and assured him of the Force’s unwavering commitment to collaborating
with NFLV while he equally pledged to maintain a proactive stance on security
matters. “We will ensure rendering a good service to NFLV,” he stated. The DPO
also shared his positive observations regarding French Village students, noting
their exemplary behavior and infrequent presence in the wider Badagry
community. Professor Oladiipo clarified that the students’ structured academic
schedule, filled with day time, evening and weekly activities, effectively keeps
them engaged and focused on their French Language Immersion Programme.
The visit concluded with a symbolic exchange of souvenirs
signifying the strengthening of ties between the two entities. The
familiarization visit marks a significant step in reinforcing the collaborative
relationship between the Nigeria French Language Village and the Nigeria Police
Force in Badagry, promising a more secure and harmonious environment for both
institutions and the wider community.
FRENCH VILLAGE BOSS VISITS HON. OLUSEGUN ONILUDE
The 5th Director / Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV), Prof. Samuel Oladiipo Kolawole, PhD, FNITI was on courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman, Badagry Local Government, Hon. Olusegun Adediran Onilude. His host in company of Principal Officers and Supervisory Councilors warmly received him at the Local Government Secretariat.
Prof. Kolawole informed his host that the purpose was for familiarization as it was the custom on assumption of duty. He expressed gratitude for the warm reception accorded him and his team and for the support that the Village has been enjoying from the Local Government in the past as he reiterated his commitment to fostering strong relationship with local authorities. He informed his host that one of the institution’s key mandates was to promote French Language education, given its status as an important international language. The Chief Executive Officer stated that the Village was embarking on community advocacy and enlightenment to encourage French Language proficiency among residents in Badagry, adding that Badagry as a border community and a major tourism hub with proximity to francophone countries is naturally expected to have majority of its people to be French literate.
Recognizing the impact of French proficiency in trade, diplomatic relations, education and tourism, the Professor of French Translation and Interpretation studies stated that NFLV is committed to ensuring that residents of Badagry and beyond easily obtain French Language proficiency. He equally specified that French proficiency programmes are structured into phases to suit every individual - Intensive / residential, evening, weekend and customized programmes at affordable rates to make French learning fun, more inclusive and beneficial to the local population. In addition, Prof. Kolawole informed the gathering that NFLV would explore collaborations, which would not only enhance communication with tourists and business partners from neighbouring countries but also as an open door to greater economic, diplomatic and educational opportunities. In conclusion, he appreciated the Executive Chairman and the Badagry community at large for their support to the Nigeria French Language Village anytime the need arose and implored his host to join the Nigeria French Language Village in spread the good news of French proficiency.
Hon. Onilude in his response expressed delight in receiving his host as he equally acknowledged the longstanding cordial relationship between Badagrians and the Nigeria French Language Village. He encouraged the Village to provide flexible and affordable learning opportunities for residents, particularly youths, traders and artisans, who may wish to develop proficiency in French Language.
The Local Government Boss promised to join the advocacy for French proficiency among the good people of Badagry. He commended NFLV for her invaluable services to the host community through quality education offered to children in French Village International Staff School (FVISS) and French Village International College (FVIC). The Executive Chairman was delighted that the Staff School would be celebrating its 25 years anniversary and promised to be part of the celebration.
On the Executive Chairman’s team were the Vice-chairman, Hon. Elizabeth Kappo, Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Moses Gbetogo Opa, Council Manager, Mrs. Mary Abosede Olusanya, Supervisory Councilors, Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants. Prof. S.O Kolawole was accompanied by Miss Ini Nwa, the Registrar, Mr. S. A. Akinola, Deputy Bursar, Dr. A. A. Adejo, Deputy Librarian and Mrs. Sessi Fagbeji-Agemo, Deputy Registrar (Information & Protocol).
NFLV Strengthens Ties with 243 RECCE Battalion in Familiarization Visit
In a move to reinforce existing relationship and ensure
continued collaboration with the Military, Professor Samuel Kolawole, the 5th
Director / Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria French Language Village
(NFLV), paid a familiarization visit to the Commanding Officer, 243 RECCE
Battalion Army Barracks, Ibereko – Badagry. Colonel. A.M. Abdu.
Following introduction of both teams, Professor Kolawole
articulated the purpose of the visit, emphasizing NFLV's tradition of engaging
with key stakeholders, particularly security agencies, on assumption of duty.
“We are here, as it is our tradition, when there is a change in administration,
to familiarize ourselves with those we work with, especially security
agencies,” he stated.
Highlighting his activities since assuming office in February
2025, Professor Kolawole explained that his visit is aimed at fostering collaboration
and sustaining the cordial relationships established with his predecessors. He
also used the opportunity to solicit further support from the Battalion. He
commended the Military Personnel deployed to NFLV for their professionalism and
dedication, noting their pleasant personalities and positive impact. However,
he requested an increase in the number of military personnel deployed to further
enhance security on campus.
Expatiating on NFLV's core mandate, Professor Kolawole stressed
the importance of French language proficiency, particularly for security
personnel operating at close proximity to French-speaking countries. He
encouraged the officers and men of 243 RECCE Battalion to participate in the French
proficiency programmes in order to facilitate effective communication across
borders and mitigate potential language barriers.
The Commanding Officer responded warmly, acknowledging the
strategic importance of French language skills for border security. “We are
here to protect the border we [Nigeria] share with Benin, and this emphasizes
the need to learn French,” he affirmed. He pledged to encourage his officers to
enroll in French language classes, recognizing the practical benefits for their
operational effectiveness.
Colonel Abdu reiterated the Battalion's long-standing positive
relationship with NFLV and assured Professor Kolawole of its continuation. He
offered prayers for the Director’s success in leading the NFLV to greater
heights and promised to address the request for additional soldiers. He also
assured the Director / CEO that he and his office would remain readily
available for any assistance required.
Prof. Kolawole Plays Host to Zenith Bank Officials, Demands Re-Establishment of Cash Centre as Mr. Kehinde Ajayi Receives Commendations.
The 5th Director / Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV), Professor Samuel Oladiipo Kolawole, PhD, FNITI, in company of Principal Officers of the institution, played host to officials from Badagry Branch of Zenith Bank plc recently, marking a significant step in strengthening the existing relationship between the two institutions. The officials were led by Mr. Samuel Ajayi-Olawaye, the Branch Manager, others on the team were Dr. Oluwaseun Oguntunwase and Mr, Kehinde Ajayi serving as relationship Managers.
Mr. Samuel Ajayi-Olawaye, while stating the purpose of the visit
informed his host that the bank has noticed a change in one of the signatories to
NFLV account, indicating the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer and that
prompted the visit which is aimed at familiarizing with the man at the helms of
affairs. The visit is also aimed at reaffirming Zenith Bank's commitment to
maintaining the long-standing relationship with NFLV. The Branch Manager assured
Professor Kolawole of Zenith Bank's unwavering support and readiness to assist
the Inter-University Centre whenever the need arose.
Professor Kolawole in his response appreciated his guests and
expressed his desire to sustain the established partnership. He acknowledged
Zenith Bank as a valued partner and made a demand of the bank to re-establish
its Cash Centre with installation of Zenith Bank Automated Teller Machine (ATM)
on campus as it was some years back, in order to facilitate easy access to
banking services for members of the NFLV Community stressing the inconveniences
faced by staff and students who are forced to travel off-campus for simple bank
transactions. Speaking further, the French Village boss highlighted the
potentials for a mutually beneficial Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
initiative from Zenith Bank, recognizing the bank's status and the positive
impact of such initiative. He reiterated commitment of French Village and its
Ventures to banking with Zenith Bank, commending its exceptional services and
expressing optimism for a fruitful outcome from the meeting.
In the course of interaction, Mr. Kehinde Ajayi, the Account
Officer to some corporate accounts within the NFLV was highly commended for his
commitment to customers services which has made their banking experiences with
Zenith Bank very easy, memorable and pleasurable.
The meeting signaled a positive step towards enhanced
collaboration and mutual support, promising to benefit both institutions and
the wider NFLV community.
Prof. Kolawole Visits EKEDC, Seeks Enhanced Power Supply
Professor Samuel
Oladiipo Kolawole FNITI, the Director / Chief Executive Officer of
the Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV) paid a courtesy visit to Badagry
Zonal Office of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), to familiarize
and foster a stronger working relationship.
The Zonal Manager, Engr.
Isaac Ajayi, warmly received his guest in company of Engr Olukunle Olukoya, the
Zonal Distribution Supervisor, in his Office. The Director / Chief Executive
Officer who was accompanied by Principal Officers of the Nigeria French
Language Village appreciated his host, Engr. Isaac Ajayi for the cordial
customer-client relationship existing between both parties and equally presented
the challenges of inadequate power supply which was imparting negatively on teaching
and research activities in the institution. He stressed the importance of a
reliable power supply for the NFLV, an Inter-University Center hosting numerous
French Undergraduates from public and private tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
He expressed concern over the current low electricity supply, noting the
institution's heavy reliance on generators, which is both costly and
inefficient. The Director / CEO made a plea for special consideration and a
mutually beneficial agreement regarding electricity distribution hours in NFLV.
The Zonal Manager in
his response reaffirmed EKEDC's commitment to improved services. He encouraged
open communication, assuring the Prof. Kolawole of EKEDC's readiness to provide
assistance with accessories, billing, and transformer issues. He equally
acknowledged the challenges, explaining that the current insufficient power
supply was due to the ongoing upgrade work in Badagry, which is expected to
last approximately forty-five days. He equally offered a promising solution,
pledging improvement in electricity supply.
Professor Kolawole
concluded the meeting by extending a warm invitation to the EKEDC Badagry
branch to visit the NFLV reiterating the institution's reliance on Engr.
Ajayi’s promise of consistent power supply.
PROF KOLAWOLE MEETS THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY, NUC

Director / Chief Executive Officer on assumption of duty has commenced
establishing relationships that matter in the course of steering the ship of
the Nigeria French Language Village. The first step in the right direction
taken by the Professor of Translation and Interpretation Studies was his visit
to the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Prof. Abdullahi
Yusuf Ribadu in Abuja. Prof. Kolawole was led by his predecessor, Prof L. B.
Ayeleru on the familiarization visit and was received by the NUC boss in his
office. The Executive Secretary who is
coincidentally a French enthusiast was delighted to receive the newly appointed
5th Director / Chief Executive Officer and while congratulating him, pledged
the Commission’s support to enable the Inter-University Centre for French
Studies in Nigeria deliver on its mandate.
Nigeria French Language Village Pays Homage to Badagry Monarch
A significant step in fostering community relations was taken as Prof. S. O. Kolawole, FNITI, the newly appointed and the fifth Director / Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV) made a familiarization visit to His Royal Majesty, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, the 25th Akran of Badagry Kingdom, Paramount Ruler of Badagry Division and the Permanent Vice Chairman of Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs his first port of call. The revered monarch whose diverse and impactful career, according to Chief Oviavo Mobee, spanned teaching, headmastership, and journalism, received his august guest and his entourage.
Following the royal introduction, the focus shifted to the newly appointed Director/CEO, Professor Diipo Kolawole, a Professor of Translation and Interpretation Studies from Ekiti State University and Fellow, Nigeria Institute of Translators and Interpreters (FNITI), setting the stage for the core purpose of the visit, which was to formally introduce the new Director/CEO to His Royal Majesty, seek his royal blessing and consolidate the existing cordial relationship between the Inter-University Centre and the royal palace. Professor Kolawole, demonstrating his cultural awareness, began his address with a traditional Yoruba greeting to the king. He emphasized the importance of paying homage to the king, recognizing him as a father figure and a vital host in the Badagry community. He expressed gratitude to Aholu Akran for his unwavering support to the growth and development of the Nigeria French Language Village as he equally pledged to strengthen the existing relationship between the Monarch the Inter-University Centre.
The palace Chiefs, in their contribution, commended the previous Directors / CEOs and expressed hope that Professor S. O. Kolawole would continue the legacy of excellence. They emphasized the importance of inclusivity, urging that the Badagry community be given priority in opportunities and privileges acruing from the Nigeria French Language Village. Highlighting the role of palace Chiefs in inter-facing with tourists, they equally requested sponsorship for Chiefs to participate in French language proficiency courses.
The familiarization visit concluded with heartfelt prayers for Prof. S. O. Kolawole, the Director / Chief Executive Officer. This event solidified the bond between the Nigeria French Language Village and the Akran’s royal palace, promising a future of continued collaboration and mutual benefit.
