PREPARATION FOR FRENCH LANGUAGE CERTIFICATIONS (DELF/DALF)

 WHAT ARE DELF AND DALF?

The Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française (DELF) and the Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française (DALF) are official French-language certifications awarded by the French Ministry of National Education. They are designed to assess and certify the proficiency of non-native speakers of French according to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

 These certifications are internationally recognized and accepted by educational institutions, employers, government agencies, and professional organizations worldwide. They provide reliable proof of a candidate’s ability to communicate effectively in French for academic, professional, immigration, and personal purposes.

The DELF and DALF diplomas are valid for life and do not require renewal.

 DELF PREPARATION

The Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV) organizes preparatory coaching programmes for candidates interested in obtaining DELF certifications.

The DELF consists of four independent levels:

A1 (Beginner)

A2 (Elementary)

B1 (Intermediate)

B2 (Upper Intermediate)

Each level evaluates the candidate’s ability to understand and communicate in French according to internationally accepted standards.

 Preparation classes organized by the Village focus on the four language competencies assessed during the examination:

Listening Comprehension (Compréhension Orale)

Reading Comprehension (Compréhension Écrite)

Written Production (Production Écrite)

Oral Production (Production Orale)

EXAMINATION SESSIONS

The Nigeria French Language Village organizes DELF examination sessions in accordance with the official calendar approved by the examination authorities.

 Sessions are generally held in:

March

July

September (when applicable)

December

Preparatory coaching classes are usually organized before each examination session to familiarize candidates with the examination format and improve their performance.

REQUIREMENTS FOR DELF REGISTRATION

Candidates wishing to register for DELF examinations must comply with the registration requirements in force at the time of registration.

A1 AND A2 CANDIDATES

Candidates must provide:

National Identification Number (NIN)

B1 AND B2 CANDIDATES

Candidates must provide either:

A valid International Passport; or

The approved DELF Identity Declaration Form, duly completed and accompanied by a valid means of identification, subject to the regulations of the examination authorities.

Candidates are advised to ensure that all required documents are submitted before the registration deadline.

DALF PREPARATION

The Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française (DALF) is the advanced level of French-language certification.

The DALF consists of two levels:

C1 (Advanced)

C2 (Mastery)

The DALF is intended for candidates who possess a high level of proficiency in French and are capable of functioning effectively in academic, professional, and social environments where French is the primary language of communication.

Candidates at this level are expected to demonstrate the ability to:

Analyse and interpret complex written and oral documents;

Present coherent and well-structured arguments;

Express ideas with accuracy and fluency;

Produce advanced written and oral discourse on a wide range of subjects.

DALF certification is widely recognized by universities, employers, and institutions throughout the Francophone world.
